About The Position

The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is seeking a Captain to assist the Warden in a broad range of administrative aspects of the facility. This role serves as a liaison and spokesperson for the Warden and facility. The Captain will also act as the Step II Grievance Coordinator, Audit Coordinator, liaison to the Ombudsman office, Attorney General office, Central Office/GVP, law enforcement agencies, members of the community and legislative body, FOIA, preparation for PREA audits, records retention, and serves as the ADA Coordinator. The position requires conducting weekly rounds in the secure perimeter of the facility to ensure all operations comply with policy, procedure, post orders, and all other applicable authorities. Additionally, the Captain will be responsible for quality assurance and process improvement for all deficiencies identified in audits, inspections, and rounds. This role involves creating or revising operating procedures, brochures, documents, spreadsheets, tracking mechanisms, and other related documents, ensuring all due dates are met.

Requirements

  • Completion of 15 semester (23 term) credits in any field.
  • Two years of experience equivalent to a Corrections Shift Supervisor 11 or Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor 11; or, one year equivalent to a Corrections Shift Supervisor 12 or Corrections Investigator 12.
  • Positions in this class are test-designated and subject to pre-appointment and random-selection drug and alcohol testing.
  • Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
