About The Position

Capital Projects Engineer is a strategic project leader who ensures industrial capital assets are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while also managing the portfolio to support long-term business objectives. A Capital Projects Engineer combines the responsibilities of a capital projects manager with those of a portfolio manager, focusing on industrial assets, facilities, and infrastructure. This role oversees the lifecycle of major industrial projects while managing a portfolio of assets or initiatives to align with strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, business administration, or a related field
  • 7–10+ years in Petrochem/Chemicals/Refinery construction, or project management, with experience in manufacturing and utilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software, budgeting tools, and data analysis; ability to use modeling and reporting to support decision-making
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities; ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • advanced degrees or certifications (PMP, LEED, etc.) are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of industrial capital projects, including construction, renovation, utility upgrades, and facility expansions, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and capital improvement plans.
  • Lead projects from concept through design, permitting, construction, commissioning, and closeout, coordinating across multiple phases and locations.
  • Develop, monitor, and control project budgets; identify cost variances and implement corrective actions; prepare and present budget and status reports.
  • Create detailed project schedules, track progress, and ensure adherence to timelines; manage dependencies and resource allocation.
  • Consultant selection, and subcontractor management; negotiate rates, manage change orders, and resolve disputes.
  • Ensure projects meet design, safety, and regulatory standards; conduct quality reviews and compliance checks.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for high-profile owners; communicate project status, risks, and opportunities.
  • Prepare performance reports, financial models, and presentations to executive leadership and stakeholders.
