About The Position

The Capital Projects Engineer will provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results. This role is accountable to deliver success from project development through project implementation, identifying and implementing capital solutions to improve safety, reliability, and/or quality issues. The engineer will engage project customers, including business unit and other mill leaders, throughout the process to ensure department and mill objectives are addressed and to deliver world class results. They will meet and/or exceed financial and timeline objectives, including start-up and operation at or above project goals, while managing multiple projects at any given time. This role involves coordinating project execution and developing strong relationships with regional engineering organization (REO) staff engineers, approving design for all engineering phases throughout the capital project process, and reviewing bid proposals and planned work spending to ensure maximum value is achieved. The position supports the development and execution of a multi-year capital plan, ensuring progress versus plan for timely project completion, and implements and improves systems necessary to sustain world class capital project processes (e.g., GMS, IP Project Delivery Process, Design for Reliability Process). Additionally, the role supports the 5S program through project implementation, identifies and implements cost reduction strategies, coordinates with other disciplines for integrated design, performs troubleshooting and de-bottlenecking of existing facilities, develops or alters standard project specifications, reviews design and engineering data for completeness and accuracy, analyzes designs for efficiency, reviews vendor/fabricator quotations and submittals, performs necessary field work, and provides construction and startup assistance. The role also requires willingness to work weekends and extra hours on shutdowns to meet project goals and fulfill weekend duty team leadership for Maintenance or assigned Business Units.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years post college experience required with project engineering experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) or construction management is required; equivalent practical experience managing capital projects may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience is preferred with preference given to candidates with experience managing a project/maintenance engineering team.
  • Experience working in a fully integrated paper mill is a plus.

  • Review of design and engineering data (drawings and other documents) to verify completeness and accuracy
  • Analyze designs for efficiency of construction, use of materials, integrity and practicality of design
  • Review certain vendor / fabricator quotations, shop drawings, and related submittals
  • Perform the necessary field work to obtain accurate information for the design
  • Provide construction and startup assistance
