The Capital Project Engineer – Mechanical will be responsible for facility and pipeline mechanical design, including equipment sizing/selection and piping design/layout/construction. This role involves carrying out detailed mechanical engineering work for projects, planning and coordinating mechanical design work requests, and ensuring compliance with all safety, legal, and mechanical engineering standards. The engineer will provide technical support for the pulp mill, ensure control documents are current, and provide process safety engineering support. Responsibilities include preparing mechanical engineering design notes, calculations, and specifications, working with other disciplines to develop P&IDs and isometric piping drawings, preparing various lists (line, valve, tie-in, specialty items), and preparing work packages for field and construction services. The role also involves providing input into operability, constructability, and operational plant troubleshooting, ensuring the technical quality of engineering deliverables, and participating in design reviews. Additionally, the engineer will assist with ensuring regulatory applications and standards are satisfied. Project duties include managing and delivering multiple projects using the project delivery process, identifying adequate staffing, coordinating project development with regional engineering and multidisciplinary teams, and coordinating project value improving practice sessions. This includes preparing data sheets, specifications, and RFPs for equipment, working with procurement to purchase and expedite equipment, reviewing vendor drawings, coordinating and reviewing inspection and quality control services, preparing vendor scope/cost/schedule change orders, and safely managing the project construction phase.
