About The Position

This role is responsible for leading the sourcing and procurement of capital equipment, systems, and engineered services. The Capital Project Buyer will support project teams in defining commercial strategies aligned to contract types, ensuring the acquisition of materials, equipment, parts, and services at the best value. The position involves developing strong supplier relationships, ensuring supplier reliability and capability, and assisting in cost reduction through recommendations for alternate sources, materials, or processes. Strategic planning, market research, risk assessment, and supplier development are key aspects of this role. Collaboration with legal, engineering, and project management on contract structuring is also required.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree with 5 years of experience in related area with a clear understanding and ability to perform within all aspects of procurement.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting projects under multiple contract types, including: Design-Build (DB), Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC/EPCM), Lump Sum / Turnkey, Unit Rate / Time & Materials, Cost-Reimbursable / Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP)
  • Proven track record managing large, complex procurement packages (e.g., engineered equipment, systems integration)
  • Knowledge of finance, coupled with an understanding of legal aspects of purchasing and inventory control, is essential to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead sourcing and procurement of capital equipment, systems, and engineered services
  • Support project teams in defining commercial strategies aligned to contract type (e.g., design-build, EPC)
  • Obtain materials, equipment, parts and services at the best value.
  • Develop credible, cooperative relationships with suppliers to ensure business needs are met.
  • Ensure the reliability, capability and soundness of suppliers.
  • Assist Units in reducing costs and expenses by recommending alternate sources, materials and / or processes.
  • Develop strategies with supporting supply portfolios (market research) to create resources, execute strategies, be flexible to market changes, assess risk and manage supplier development.
  • Collaborate with legal, engineering, and project management on contract structuring
  • Develop a network of sources to supply related equipment, parts and/or services that meet the quality, cost and delivery requirements as defined by the business
  • Develop and implement strategic action plans to obtain company, department and personal goals
  • Continuously assess supply risks and opportunities.
  • Negotiate with suppliers, draft and finalize subsequent agreements
  • Continually manage the supply chain through appropriate performance evaluations on suppliers.
