About The Position

The Capernaum Coordinator is responsible for leading and developing ministry to "every kid" within a defined area, with a specific focus on teens with disabilities and their families. This role involves spiritual development, leadership development, resource development, direct ministry, and administrative support, all within the framework of Young Life's Christian mission and values. The position requires a vital relationship with Jesus Christ, strong leadership and relational skills, and a commitment to proclaiming the Gospel.

  • College degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life, including prayer, solitude, retreat, reflection, and study of God's Word.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within an active church community and the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development with the Area Director.
  • Ensure all Young Life ministry under leadership is designed and carried out with dependence on prayer stemming from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Partner with the local area director and committee to cast vision for reaching "every kid" within the defined area.
  • Develop a subcommittee to represent the specific needs of teens with disabilities and their families, and to raise necessary funding.
  • Create consistent gatherings with the subcommittee and Capernaum leaders to build unity, provide vision, and direction.
  • Create a spiritual leadership plan for Capernaum volunteer leaders and subcommittee members.
  • Recruit and train new leaders to build leadership teams that reflect the community.
  • Train leaders and drivers in the physical care of kids with disabilities.
  • Provide quality summer staff, work crew, and adult guests for summer camps.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping to other leaders.
  • Train leaders, team leaders, and committee on effective teamwork and developing a yearly ministry strategy with the local Area Director.
  • Provide leadership to the subcommittee in finding partners to support the Capernaum area vision and budget.
  • Develop a fundraising strategy for Capernaum alongside the Area Director and ensure excellent communication to donors.
  • Build the Young Life brand via public relations as an excellent tool for working with youth in the area.
  • Conduct quality events with the Area Director that reflect Young Life's capacity to impact kids and warrant investment.
  • Effectively communicate the needs and successes of the local Capernaum ministry to the area committee as directed by the Area Director.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead or co-lead a model Young Life club.
  • Lead or co-lead an effective Campaigner ministry with excellence.
  • Develop and implement ongoing plans to maximize Gospel proclamation through camping opportunities.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life property, other Young Life camp, or in another position each summer as requested.
  • Develop relationships with school administration, parents, and school aides to gain access to kids with disabilities.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders, and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate, and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.
  • Accept both short and long-term assignments of projects.
  • Meet weekly with supervisor.
  • Participate in additional training or experiences if deemed necessary (e.g., more urban exposure; Taking Donors Seriously (TDS) training).
  • Attend regional training as directed by the regional director.
  • Participate in programs designed for personal spiritual maturity or personal enrichment.
  • Pursue seminars designed to enhance professional skills.
  • Receive the same missionwide training as equivalent traditional staff.
