About The Position

The employee coordinates the activities of carriers resulting in their optimum use which contributes to the overall profitability of Epes Logistics Services, Inc. and the accompanying subsidiaries and divisions. This role is responsible for assigning carriers, working with them to source capacity, and establishing Epes Logistics Services, Inc. as a valued customer to create partnerships for repeat business. The Capacity Coordinator ensures adequate capacity for all freight booked, manages pick-up and delivery decisions, and tracks loads to meet customer requirements for on-time service and correct equipment. They are also responsible for meeting budget goals for load count, margin dollars, and margin percentage, identifying and resolving major issues between carriers and Epes Logistics, and coordinating the performance of affiliate and partner carriers. Daily reports on carrier performance are maintained and reviewed. The role involves analyzing available loads for repetitive lanes that could become "Dedicated" and responding to requests from sales, operations, or pricing for specific carrier needs. Integration with Marketing and Sales staff is key to establishing specific customer requirements. The position also supports the Epes Carriers, Inc. Quality Management System and works with the Vice President of Quality to promote a quality improvement process.

Requirements

  • College degree in transportation or related business field preferred.
  • Ability to sell and build relationships over the phone.
  • Related experience in transportation/trucking.
  • Good working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office, Excel, etc).
  • EDI, and/or Innovative software background helpful.
  • Excellent work history with proven track record.
  • Strong carrier following recommended.
  • Excellent data entry skills—accuracy is very important.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Professional, clean, neat appearance.
  • No convictions of serious crimes.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Ability to read and comprehend general instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a list of carriers to utilize for freight coverage and communicate with them daily via phone, email, and other technology.
  • Assign carriers as a carrier manager and work daily/hourly with these carriers to source capacity.
  • Establish Epes Logistics Services, Inc. as a customer to select outside carriers, emphasizing value and strengths to create partnerships for repeat business.
  • Secure adequate capacity for all freight booked in the system.
  • Make decisions and implement pick-up and delivery schedules to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Track and trace loads scheduled for pick-up and monitor delivery status to ensure customer requirements are met with on-time service and correct equipment.
  • Meet/exceed Load count, Margin $, and Margin % budget goals.
  • Identify major issues between carrier and Epes Logistics and bring them to resolution.
  • Coordinate and monitor the performance of affiliate and partner carriers.
  • Maintain daily reports and review them for carrier performance.
  • Work with and analyze available loads daily for repetitive lanes that could become “Dedicated.”
  • Respond to and find carriers for all submitted requests from sales, operations, or pricing on specific needs.
  • Integrate with Marketing and Sales staff to establish specific requirements for the customer.
  • Demonstrate support to the Epes Carriers, Inc. Quality Management System and its objectives, as applicable.
  • Work with the Vice President of Quality to establish and promote a true quality improvement process to include the Quality Management System at the company with the involvement of all personnel.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Manager.
