About The Position

The Outreach Team is a premier national field firm partnering with organizations to solve significant societal problems, such as expanding clean energy and strengthening communities. They are seeking Field Directors to manage their office in Lincoln, NE. The Field Director will be responsible for recruiting, training, and managing a team of local canvassers who will engage with Lincoln residents door-to-door. This role involves building an office from the ground up as part of the director team. The Field Director is expected to lead by example by training canvassers in the field and participating in canvassing themselves. Key duties include communicating long and short-term goals to staff and managing campaign reporting. The Field Director will manage canvassers and Team Leads and report to the Lead Director. The Lead Campaign Director will manage Deputy Directors and is responsible for scaling the office. The Lead Director reports to the Project Director, and Deputy Directors report to the Lead Director.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team
  • Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
  • Track record of equity and inclusion
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
  • Familiarity with VAN and MiniVAN
  • Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
  • Facilitation experience
  • Local knowledge/experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 40–60 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to community members about local clean energy storage projects and build community support for a reliable, affordable energy future
  • Canvass yourself several days a week to train staff and drive office goals
  • Set goals and hold staff accountable to them
  • Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff
  • Identify, promote, and train a leadership team
  • Build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
  • Develop strategic plans to reach targeted constituents in assigned locations
  • Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials
