About The Position

The Canteen Store Clerk position involves performing sales and storekeeping duties independently within the Canteen/Store area. This role also includes simple food preparation and other related tasks as assigned. The position is part-time and located at the Western Nebraska Veterans' Home in Scottsbluff.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in inventory, warehouse, material supply, or other closely related field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of warehouse and storage operations including shipping and receiving.
  • Knowledge of stock control and inventory systems, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general bookkeeping procedures.
  • Skill in assisting and working with customers.
  • Skill in instructing, training, and overseeing the work of others.
  • Skill in the operation of materials handling equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to learn, apply, and enforce agency and/or facility regulations pertaining to inventory and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to estimate stock needs and re-order materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to lead and/or oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to bend, twist, push, pull, and lift boxes and other objects and reach with body, arms, and legs.
  • Ability to perform duties in an unheated or un-air-conditioned building.
  • Ability to independently problem solve.
  • Ability to organize and maintain work areas.

Responsibilities

  • Meet, greet, and perform check-out functions for customers.
  • Provide customer assistance to Members, staff, and visitors.
  • Operate a cash register, point-of-sale system, and/or other related equipment to finalize customer transactions.
  • Maintain charge accounts.
  • Balance daily sales reports using computer software programs.
  • Record daily sales.
  • Receive, open, and unpack inventory orders.
  • Stock shelves, racks, bins, refrigerators, and display cases in an orderly and visually pleasing manner.
  • Perform routine housekeeping functions including dusting, cleaning, vacuuming, etc., to maintain sanitation standards.
  • Perform simple food preparation.
