The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform complex technical and advisory functions to evaluate quality, completeness, and validity of cancer data, to identify program problems and prepare methods to alleviate the problems. This position plans, directs, and coordinates all activities of the Illinois State Cancer Registry (ISCR), including field operations, biomedical coding, and data management. The manager will coordinate and review the functions of the ISCR management staff, serve as a working supervisor, and conduct studies of ISCR operations to establish quantitative and qualitative standards to evaluate the program. Additionally, the role involves establishing and maintaining good working relationships with reporting hospitals, medical institutions, other state registries, other divisions of IDPH, other state agencies, and staff in national standard setting and cancer registration organizations. The manager will attend management meetings, provide updates to the Division Chief, prepare or assist in preparing proposed legislation and Administrative Rules for ISCR, and write grant proposals and progress reports for funding. Maintaining a personal continuing education program related to current literature in the field is also required.
