About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager of Cancer Registry, performs analytical and technical duties for the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) Cancer Program, in accordance with the standards and regulations of the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC), the State of Ohio Department of Health (ODH) as well as the UTMC Cancer Committee. The employee is expected to adhere to UTMC Service Values including iCare standards at all times. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues. The employee should be knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues, and able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified, all issues should be handled timely and appropriately. The employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Must have completed the CIM program or have RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCP or CPHI or equivalent credential.
  • Must have or be required to obtain an ODS-C (Oncology Data Specialist- Certified) credential within 12 months. Maintenance of credential(s) required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products and standard office equipment.
  • Must have the ability to handle difficult and sensitive situations tactfully.

Nice To Haves

  • Electronic database abstracting experience preferred.
