About The Position

The Cancer Center Coordinator is responsible for managing patient accounts, ensuring accurate demographic and insurance information, and providing excellent customer service. This role involves direct communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, as well as maintaining compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. The coordinator plays a key role in facilitating patient care, ensuring patient safety, and enhancing the overall patient experience within the cancer center.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, customers, and team members to provide high-quality customer service, ensure patient safety, and facilitate patient care.
  • Perform account creation and registration tasks accurately and efficiently via face-to-face interaction, telephone, or bedside interviews.
  • Actively listen to understand conveyed information and demonstrate genuine warmth, care, and concern.
  • Identify, document, and report exceptions, account creation errors, unresolved complaints, and critical issues to the Manager in a timely manner.
  • Mentor new staff members as assigned.
  • Collaborate with an inter-disciplinary team, acting as an advocate for patients and families to ensure patient safety, satisfaction, and quality of services.
  • Gather all defined data accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner using appropriate departmental databases.
  • Properly re-identify patients upon completion of account creation/verification and place armbands.
  • Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of policies and procedures to comply with departmental, organizational, regulatory, and agency needs.
  • Utilize knowledge and critical thinking to apply policy and procedure equitably to all patients and customers.
  • Promote a secure environment for the procurement of patient’s protected health information (PHI).
  • Comply with regulatory requirements such as OSHA, JCAHO, and HIPAA.
  • Monitor scheduled follow-up, same-day, and next-day appointments.
  • Maintain direct communication with Providers, nursing support, and auxiliary staff to ensure proper scheduling.
  • Provide exceptional customer service support and ensure outstanding public relations.
  • Serve as a resource for patients, families, hospital management, and staff.
  • Provide accurate information to all customers by phone or other communication media.
  • Answer telephone calls and related questions professionally, with patience and maturity.
  • Assist with administrative duties.
  • Communicate effectively with department contacts, patients, and management to investigate and resolve patient account issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
