About The Position

Habitat for Humanity GTA is greater Toronto’s most recognized provider and advocate of solutions that tackle our region’s housing crisis. Our mission is to create a world where everyone has a safe, quality place to live. We focus on creative solutions to address the affordable housing crisis in Toronto, Brampton, Caledon, York Region and Durham Region. With the help of volunteers, donors and community partners, we unlock change for generations by bringing the benefits of home ownership to more people and communities. Since 1988, Habitat GTA has built 23 new communities, empowering more than 500 families. Position Summary The Development officer will play a key supporting role across a range of fundraising initiatives. Working closely with the Corporate Partnerships and Major Gifts teams, the intern will gain hands-on experience in donor engagement, event planning, and fundraising operations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Habitat’s mission while developing practical skills in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant post-secondary program (e.g., Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management).
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Genuine interest in nonprofit work and fundraising.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada throughout the duration of their employment with Habitat for Humanity GTA. Proof of eligibility will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM platforms is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on prospective donors and funding opportunities.
  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising events, contingent on internship timing.
  • Draft and distribute donor communications and fundraising materials.
  • Maintain and update donor databases; track contributions and engagement.
  • Provide administrative support to the Fund Development team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integrated fundraising efforts.
  • Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to generate new fundraising strategies.
