About The Position

Improves student achievement by performing a variety of duties involved in the protection of district students, staff, patrons and property by helping to enforce District safety and security policies and procedures and helping to prevent injuries, thefts, fires, vandalism, or other undesired events or activities. Receives supervision from Building Principal and may receive guidance and direction from School Resource Officer or designee. Exercises no supervision.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of state mandated security offices curriculum and annual refresher training with passing grades.
  • Knowledge of small group problem solving techniques, mediation and conflict resolution
  • Effective methods of handling youth behavior problems including peer mediation and intervention
  • Building and grounds security patrolling methods and techniques including scheduling and coordination of related activities
  • Operate a computer and other electronic equipment
  • Ability to work harmoniously and communicate with students, parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
  • Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate manner for the assignment and work setting
  • Have regular and punctual attendance
  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor
  • Follow all district policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority
  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague or district patron and relating to District personnel

Nice To Haves

  • Two years experience dealing with adolescents including background in community corrections techniques, juvenile parole and probation and/or law enforcement, preferred but not required
  • Associates degree in human services, social services or related field is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of detention and Wednesday school
  • Establish positive working relationships with students
  • Patrolling school buildings and grounds according to predetermined procedures with flexible schedules and routes
  • Monitor parking areas and informing school administration of illegally parked cars, careless driving on school premises or other concerns related to vehicles on campus
  • Enforcing institutional rules of behavior on campus or grounds
  • Checking and reporting any hazardous conditions, disturbances or suspicious circumstances
  • Assisting with the supervision of student conduct at the bus loading area
  • Monitor traffic control after school
  • May work with other agencies/services in the supervision of special and athletic events
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Understand written and oral directions
  • Maintain self-control at all times and to react quickly and calmly under emergency situations
  • Model good public relations in dealing with visitors and strangers and in escorting them to the office
  • Maintain open communication channels with school staff, students and the general public
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining an orderly and supportive environment for staff and students
  • Knowledge of camera system; monitor campus cameras
