About The Position

We are launching a new business under PEAK6 that gives students the opportunity to teach their peers poker — as a way to build strategic thinking, decision-making under uncertainty, and confidence. You would be on the ground floor, building the thing itself, with us. This is a PEAK6 company, not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Texas. We're starting here because we want students building it and students learning from it. No money is exchanged and nothing is wagered in the poker play itself. Gambling of any form is expressly prohibited. You get paid; the games do not involve stakes. These are skill-building lessons. Jenny Just, co-founder of PEAK6, has a vision to build a company around teaching poker as a way to practice risk-taking and build confidence, and she wants students to build it with her. There are two distinct roles available: Student Founders and Student Teachers.

Requirements

• Extremely entrepreneurial. A self-starter. Charismatic and organized.
• Comfortable walking up to strangers and recruiting them.
• Interested in startups and leadership.
• You need to know how to play poker, and feel confident dealing and hosting a game.
• Some experience is required (expert level not necessary, PEAK6 can help level up skills).
• You need to want to build something that has your fingerprints on it.
• Open to students — any year, any major, any gender.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage the business at UT (Student Founders).
• Work directly with Jenny Just, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of PEAK6, and her team to set the strategy — what this looks like, who it reaches, how it grows (Student Founders).
• Launch it, then run it (Student Founders).
• Recruit students and build a community from nothing (Student Founders & Student Teachers).
• Help hire and lead the student teachers under you (Student Founders).
• Host one to two sessions per week (Student Founders & Student Teachers).
• Secure space and campus partners — or use our Austin office (Student Founders).
• Build the marketing plan and execute it (Student Founders).
• Track participation and grow it (Student Founders).
• Deal and teach poker games, with some light support from professional poker instructors as needed/dictated (Student Teachers).
• Help create a room people want to come back to (Student Teachers).
