About The Position

Transportation Services-Fleet Operations is searching for a Part-Time Campus Shuttle Driver to drive shuttle services vehicles, such as van-buses, vans, shuttle buses, handicap service vehicles, etc., on established routes and schedules, and special assignments, to transport passengers within the University Park and State College area. The role involves stopping at posted stops to allow passengers to enter and/or exit safely and efficiently, checking passengers for required passes, and providing information on campus directions and building locations. The driver will operate a two-way radio for communication with supervisors and report vehicle issues. Responsibilities also include performing daily vehicle checks (fuel, lubrication, water, antifreeze, tires, engine, lights, doors, wipers, horn), reporting malfunctions, performing general housekeeping duties to keep vehicles clean, and recording odometer readings. The driver will also shuttle vehicles to and from Fleet parking and complete daily time and defect sheets and other statistical data gathering records.

Requirements

  • Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data.
  • Requires a Pennsylvania Commercial Driver`s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement (P); without Air Brake Restriction (L).
  • Over 6 months up to and including 9 months of effective experience.
  • This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
  • A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Drive shuttle services vehicles on established routes and schedules, and for special assignments.
  • Transport passengers within the University Park and State College area.
  • Stop at posted stops to allow passengers to enter and/or exit safely and efficiently.
  • Check all passengers upon entering vehicle for required pass, as assigned.
  • Provide information such as campus directions and building locations.
  • Operate two-way radio to report breakdowns or problems and receive instructions.
  • Check vehicles for fuel, lubrication, water, antifreeze, tires, and general operation of engine, lights, doors, wipers, and horn.
  • Report malfunctions and/or needed repairs and servicing to Supervisor or Group Leader.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to keep vehicles clean and habitable.
  • Clean windshield and rearview mirror(s) as needed.
  • Read and record odometer readings as assigned.
  • Dispatch from and return vehicles to Fleet parking for customers as assigned.
  • Shuttle vehicles in the University Park and State College area.
  • Keep and fill in daily and special time and defect sheets and other statistical data gathering records as required.
