Requirements

  • R.N. designation from a recognized School of Nursing (required)
  • Holds an unrestricted license for independent practice from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing education (required)
  • Instructor Certificate (current) in at least two of the following areas is required or a willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire: Standard First Aid (includes CPR and AED), Basic Life Support (BLS) (BLS-CPR)
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience
  • Exceptional ability to support and motivate others.
  • Ability to engage with others utilizing a broad range of leadership skills including, but not limited to collaboration, direction, and delegation.
  • Excellent organizational skills, easily able to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and negotiate changes in priorities.
  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication.
  • Able to effectively coordinate with internal and external partners to disseminate timely and accurate information to students and staff about temporary and permanent operational changes.
  • Intermediate level skills in MS Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint, web content management systems
  • A clear vulnerable sector check is required

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership experience an asset, 3+ years preferred
  • Background in administrative management including human resources management, service efficiency, and front-line staff management an asset, preferably in a student-focused capacity.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Emergency Department experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the recruitment, evaluation, promotion, professional development, retention, and performance management of direct and indirect reports within the CRT team.
  • Recruit CRT Administrations Coordinator and CRT Operations Coordinator each term.
  • Working with the CRT Administration Coordinator and the CRT Operations Coordinator, guide the recruitment, selection, and training of student CRT volunteers.
  • Ensures effective change management best practice through communication, consultation, expectation management, training, and development.
  • Builds training plans with direct reports that align with interests, job function, and long-term goals.
  • Creates and sustains a professional, respectful and collaborative team environment by clearly setting expectations, maintaining effective communication, and fostering engagement and accountability among CRT volunteers.
  • Provides ongoing leadership, coaching and development to CRT coordinators and CRT volunteers through regular meetings and feedback, including goal setting and performance management.
  • Monitors and reports on strategic and operational plans related to CRT Operations.
  • May be required to assist with media opportunities through Imprint.
  • Work in collaboration with the Manager, Nursing & Clinical Operations and Associate Director of Clinical Services on new initiatives throughout Clinical Services, offering input and guidance.
  • Trains and certifies team members for Campus Wellness for Standard First Aid (including CPR and AED), BLS, BLS-CPR and Medical First Responder or provides oversight and ongoing facilitation of training and certification via third parties.
  • Assists with organizing and ensuring compliance with mask-fit testing requirements for Campus Wellness employees and independent contractors.
  • In collaboration with the CRT Administrations Coordinator and the CRT Operations Coordinator, organizes in-house training to maintain skill levels and ability to respond to emergency situations (lectures, practice scenarios, fitness activities).
  • Maintains training materials, event equipment and other resources for CRT volunteers.
  • Works collaboratively with campus partners to coordinate First Aid service at on-campus events.
  • Provides direction and logistics support for the Campus Response Team, including pre-event communication, CRT scheduling, volunteer deployment, on-site supervision and communications as needed, and post-event debriefs.
  • Develops and maintains extensive program documentation (e.g., action plans) outlining program goals, outcomes, progress, and recommendations for future CRT involvement in various campus events.
  • Solicits feedback from campus event-planners on CRT performance.
  • Assists with conflict management and overall troubleshooting.
  • Prioritizes, adapts, and reacts quickly to rapidly changing sensitive situations calmly and effectively.
  • Identifies and communicates staff needs for continuing education to the Associate Director of Clinical Services.
  • Provides direct clinical services through clinical nursing positions in both the Student Clinic and the Family Health Clinic during peak periods, staffing shortages or urgent situations that require immediate intervention.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives to enhance clinic efficiency while maintaining high standards of care and service delivery to students.
  • Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment: Completes preventative and annual maintenance requirements, conducts troubleshooting, coordinates servicing and repairs. Maintains emergency inventory equipment, evaluates new equipment and techniques.
  • Manages birth control and vaccine dispensary including the procurement, storage and licensing requirements. Includes management of Yellow Fever designation and management of SSHP blackout schedules.
  • Maintains and coordinates, in partnership with the Associate Director of Clinical Services and Manager, Nursing & Clinical Operations ongoing/annual programs including immunizations (including Flu and COVID), screening clinics and other Public Health initiatives as appropriate for the patient population in both the Student Clinic and Family Health Clinic.
  • Supports the development and interpretation of infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Enforces medication administration, storage and handling procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Nursing & Clinical Operations develops and maintains working guidelines and standard operating procedures for the team, ensuring compliance with university policies and guidelines, and all health and safety legislation.
  • Maintains medical supplies inventory by studying usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies; approving requisitions as needed. Includes medications and liquid nitrogen for clinic practices.
  • Completes operational administrative responsibilities for Campus Wellness: Creates and orders name plates, maintains CW PCard, reconciles monthly ordering, maintains and manages supply rooms, utilizes WatProcure for large purchases, manages asset disposal, supports shipping requests using Central Stores Ship2 system.
  • Manages CRT space, supplies, equipment, apparel, room bookings and key fob access.
  • Prepares the annual non-salary CRT budget and CRT activity report.
  • Oversees the completion of Volunteer Agreements and Vulnerable Sector Checks for all CRT volunteers.
  • Responds to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, including complaints and issues management.
  • Ensures CRT website is kept accurate and up to date.
  • Ensures the University of Waterloo brand is appropriate on all apparel, marketing material and communications, reflecting the reputation of the University.
  • Coordinates service continuity for laboratory and nursing operations, including communicating closures, service changes, or capacity constraints to Campus Wellness and UW Life teams.
  • Performs monthly health and safety checks (including Safety Alarm testing) and maintains and ensures up-to-date information on the Health and Safety board to ensure compliance.
  • Member of the Health and Safety committee and UW Health and Safety Community of Practice.
  • Maintains and updates the MSDS binder with new products as appropriate.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport, and participating in team problem-solving methods.
