About The Position

This position is responsible for the daily, direct deployment and field supervision of Campus Parking Patroller I staff in coordination with the Parking Enforcement Operations Manager. The role involves providing continuous and ongoing oversight of Parking Patrollers’ daily activities to maintain safe and orderly parking conditions throughout the campus, ensuring the consistent, efficient, and effective performance of enforcement duties. The Patroller will also provide on-call field support and input for performance appraisals. Additionally, this role serves as the initial point of contact for customer inquiries and concerns, meeting with customers in the field to provide assistance and information regarding campus parking rules. Collaboration with the Parking Enforcement Operations Manager includes preparing and conducting daily pre/post-shift briefings, processing and supervising vehicle impoundments, and providing traffic control support for various events and situations. The position also involves observing and reporting property damage, maintenance needs, safety hazards, and suspicious activities, as well as maintaining accountability for ticketing devices and equipment. Patrolling campus areas and issuing citations is a key responsibility, along with responding to emergency calls and conducting traffic and parking lot utilization surveys.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Possession of a classified driver's license appropriate to the type of vehicle operated
  • Current Florida Driver’s License

  • Ability to operate a department vehicle safely and work outdoors in year-round conditions.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous and ongoing oversight of Parking Patrollers’ daily activities to maintain safe and orderly parking conditions throughout the campus.
  • Ensure the consistent, efficient and effective performance of enforcement duties and responsibilities.
  • Provide on-call field support to the Parking Patrollers as needed.
  • Provide input regarding Parking Patrollers’ performance for quarterly performance appraisals.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Meet with customers in the field to provide customer care and answer questions, as may be required, ensuring prompt and professional response.
  • Assist customers with information, direction and guidance about the rules governing parking on the University of Florida campus to assure the most positive experience possible.
  • Collaborate with the Parking Enforcement Operations Manager to prepare and conduct daily pre/post-shift briefings to explain and discuss evolving department orders and directives, newly developed procedures and interpretations, and conduct personnel inspections prior to deployment to the field.
  • Process and supervise vehicle impoundments including confirmation of proper impound criteria, physical booting or towing of vehicles, escort of vehicles to the impound yard, removal of boots as appropriate, safe and proper handling of vehicles, and related functions.
  • Ensure accuracy and professionalism in performing these highly sensitive duties.
  • Provide traffic control support to TAPS and the University of Florida Police Department as directed in support of football games and athletic events, special events, accidents, stranded motorists, etc.
  • Observe and report damaged or malfunctioning property, equipment, signs, gates and meters, etc.
  • Identify and report maintenance needs as appropriate.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, acts of vandalism, suspicious persons and activities, and any other condition that could create an unsafe condition.
  • Maintain accountability and damage control for all hand-held ticket writing devices, printers and related equipment deployed and stored for use by the Campus Parking Patrollers.
  • Patrol streets, parking lots and garages, service drives, no parking areas, traffic entrances to restricted areas, and related campus facilities as appropriate; issuing parking citations as warranted for violations.
  • Respond immediately and professionally to emergency calls from the University of Florida Police Department deploying Parking Patrollers as may be required in coordination with the Police.
  • Responsible for informing TAPS supervisors of the situation as soon as the emergency dispatch is completed.
  • Conduct traffic and parking lot utilization surveys and field conditions reporting, as required/requested, and submit written report on same.
