About The Position

The Campus Fire Marshal plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of the ORU community. This position plans, organizes, directs, and implements fire prevention and suppression to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property by fire.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School diploma or GED.
  • State certification in fire inspection or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and have an excellent driving record for the purpose of driving a University vehicle.
  • Requires state certification in fire inspection or must have worked for a city or city, state, or federal fire department in the inspection division for at least 5 years.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are a must in regards to effective, consistent and accurate communication with administration, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Must maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times.
  • Must exhibit the ability to take direction and responsibility for follow-up of assigned tasks to ensure they are completed satisfactorily, accurately and on time.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize multi-tasks in the midst of a fast-paced, high-demand, and sometimes unpredictable work environment.
  • Must have proven ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making working under stress and within a framework of specific guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer some college or trade school in applicable field, and/or a degree in Fire Protection Technology or other applicable degrees.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to alarms and direct activities at the scene of major emergencies as required.
  • Investigate all causes for fire.
  • Has unlimited access to all areas of the campus.
  • Test all fire alarm panels and ensure all proper documentation is completed.
  • Call appropriate personnel and/or vendor to resolve problems and/or make repairs.
  • Maintain compliance with the fire codes.
  • Test all fire equipment sprinkler system, vent-a-hood system and stand pipe system.
  • Inspect and maintain the fire equipment features and conduct fire inspections in all buildings on campus.
  • Enforces fire prevention ordinances and identify hazardous conditions.
  • Check fire extinguishers, exit lights, emergency lighting, fire lanes, and all fire codes and ensure all are in working order.
  • Inspect fire exit plans and conduct fire alarm drills to appraise evacuation procedures.
  • Assist the Director and/or Security Officers in the decisions of safety if needed.
  • Office work - answering phones, questions, calling vendors for estimates for repairs or for testing.
  • Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and general public.
