Performs advanced protective service and administrative work safeguarding public safety by implementing and supporting fire code compliance activities, fire prevention, fire investigations, fire and life safety education, and planning, organizing, and supporting all emergency management operations and programs required by NC General Statute 166A and applicable local ordinances. Conducts routine inspections of commercial buildings and facilities to ensure compliance with the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code, reviews construction plans for adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, educates the public through community risk reduction initiatives, and related work as apparent or assigned. This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screenings under the Town’s Drug-Free and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy. This position is designated as essential during emergency or disaster situations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fire Chief.
