About The Position

The Campus Environmental Center Coordinator assists with decisions related to sustainability goals and manages Campus Environmental Center (CEC) operations. This role supervises student staff and volunteers, and is responsible for implementing project criteria, procedures, and standards for sustainability projects. The position involves building and maintaining relationships with on and off-campus stakeholders, advocating for student involvement in sustainability decision-making, and serving on cross-campus committees to advance UT Austin's sustainability mission. Key activities include creating reports and presentations, assisting with university sustainability reporting, managing the CEC's budget and contractual relationships, and overseeing operations and student staff. The role also manages a leadership program for undergraduate students, facilitates the transition of student leaders, and oversees student-focused sustainability programming and outreach events. Additionally, the coordinator is responsible for managing the CEC office space and affiliated student-use spaces, including acquiring resources, tracking visitors, monitoring space usage, and overseeing shared spaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of responsible level experience in program administration or program coordination, or master's degree and one year of experience.
  • Three years minimum experience in a professional environment related to recycling and/or sustainability, with the ability to cross-communicate with student organizations, academia, industry, state, and other higher education institutions.
  • Current Class "C" Operator Driver License required.
  • Prior to date of hire, applicant selected must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) showing a driving history going back 36 months.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employee without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Bachelor's degree in Sustainability or Program Management.
  • Demonstrated experience with youth development and coordination of recycling and/or sustainability projects involving higher education students.
  • Five to seven years of experience in a professional environment related to recycling and/or sustainability, preferably in a higher education surrounding.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains relationships with on and off campus stakeholders.
  • Advocates for student involvement in sustainability decision making on campus.
  • Serves on cross-campus committees and task forces to advance sustainability mission at UT Austin.
  • Creates periodic reports on CEC activities and shares with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creates presentations as requested.
  • Assists with sustainability reporting for the University.
  • Maintains income and expense records and annual budget for CEC.
  • Monitors CEC contractual relationships.
  • Manages CEC operations, student staff, and volunteers as needed.
  • Manages a leadership program for undergraduate students focused on professional development and career skills.
  • Assists CEC leaders in achieving success on organizational initiatives.
  • Reviews projects for feasibility and compliance with UT policy and procedures.
  • Ensures each project meets formal CEC goals as outlined by student organizational bylaws.
  • Initiates administrative procedures of student hires and onboarding.
  • Facilitates the annual transition of student leaders and communicates CEC structure and planned activities.
  • Manages student-focused sustainability programming including New Student Orientation initiatives, sustainability careers programming and resources, and other sustainability outreach and education events for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Assists in identifying and shaping new programs that meet organizational mission and goals.
  • Manage CEC office space and affiliated student-use spaces.
  • Responsible for acquisition of all needed physical resources, tracking visitors, monitoring space usage, and overseeing operations and management of shared spaces.

Benefits

  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
