Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is a social services organization advancing the social and economic well-being of immigrant and low-income New Yorkers through holistic services and community-led impact. CPC is the nation’s largest Asian American social services organization and serves as a trusted community anchor to over 80,000 community members who are served by CPC annually through 50+ high-quality programs and services across 35 sites in New York City. The Education and Career Services (ECS) division provides dynamic programs and activities that bridge youth and adults with their highest educational, economic and leadership potential. ECS believes it is never too early or too late to start learning, which is why we use an asset-based approach to maximize clients’ current strengths. Whether in our schools, community centers, or internship sites, ECS creates equitable learning environments that promote leadership development, self-advocacy, and community building. Our programs equip clients with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow. The After-School Program (NDA/Compass High) is funded through the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and offers youth participants a wide range of enrichment workshops to promote lifelong skills needed to succeed academically, socially and professionally. These workshops include but not limited to Academic tutoring, College and work readiness, Leadership development, Guest Speaker series, mentoring opportunities and recreational activities. The Career Ready (SYEP) Program, also funded through DYCD, provides students between the ages of 14 to 21 with project-based learning opportunities and paid, summer work experience for up to six weeks in July and August. Youth aged 14-15 are engaged in projects that provide enriching career exploration, emphasize foundational work readiness skills, and help build social emotional learning skills. Youth aged 16-21 are placed in entry-level positions across a variety of sectors and industries. All participants are provided with workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, continuing education and other life skills. The Work, Learn and Grow Program (WLG), funded through DYCD, offers young people ages 16-19 from public schools in New York City an opportunity to strengthen work readiness skills, explore career, receive academic support, including guidance on postsecondary education and potential to earn college credits and paid internships.
