About The Position

Under the direction of a designated campus leader, the Campus Child Care Specialist is responsible for providing safe, nurturing, and engaging care for children during designed hours on campus. This role supports the colleges’ commitment to family-friendly policies and helps ensure that parents can participate fully in academic responsibilities. The Child Care Specialist is responsible for scheduling and overseeing the childcare assistants. The position is responsible for assuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing contract agencies and CMC policies. The Childcare Specialist works collegially with parents and other staff and faculty members of CMC. For the lead role, is responsible for the coordination of childcare services and scheduling offerings during schedule hours for students while they are on campus for classes or other required activities. This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC’s work week. CMC’s workweek is Saturday through Friday. The work hours for this position will be primarily evenings and approximately 10-15 hours per week, days and times may vary.

Requirements

  • High school or GED with a combination of six months of equivalent education/training and childcare experience or associate’s degree in early childhood education, or related field, and some related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the functions of the position.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the needs and concerns of college student parents who have childcare requirements.
  • Responsible, kind and dedicated individual to provide quality caring and enrichment activities for children ages three through twelve.
  • Adept in understanding staffing and turnover within Early Childhood education so to ensure consistency and quality of staff.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility, teamwork, and humor.
  • Commitment to working effectively with students, employees, and community members of all backgrounds.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado or obtain residency within 30 days of hire and perform all work duties within the state.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required.

Nice To Haves

  • First aid and CPR certification are preferred or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops weekly plans and implements age -appropriate lessons.
  • Serve as an information resource to students, staff, and faculty regarding the available quality child care, interview clients for special child care requirements.
  • Provides and ensures a healthy, safe, clean and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
  • On an on-going basis, plans, evaluates and improves the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child.
  • Provides responsive care to all children by adapting daily care giving routines and plans to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic, and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans.
  • Completes child transition and orientation of the classroom.
  • Maintains ongoing, open communication with parents, caregivers, and supervisor.
  • Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent participation.
  • Schedules and organizes support staff.
  • Conducts supervision of the teacher assistants.
  • Ensures that teacher assistants are kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom and program, i.e. lesson plans, policies & procedures, training received.
  • Completes daily snack preparations.
  • Records accurate attendance records.
  • Maintains up-to-date emergency forms.
  • Records accurate drop-off and pick-up information.
  • Completes and reports any symptoms of child abuse to supervisor and/or child abuse hotline.
  • Other duties as assigned.
