About The Position

The Campus Band Leader serves as a primary music leader within the Ministry of Worship Arts, providing musical leadership, keyboard and/or organ accompaniment, rehearsal support, musical arrangements, track programming, and creative preparation for Mount Zion worship services. While this role may have a primary campus assignment, the Campus Band Leader must remain flexible and available to serve across Mount Zion locations, including Antioch, OHB, Brentwood, Jefferson Street, and other ministry settings as needs arise. This role reports directly to the Worship Pastor and functions with delegated musical leadership in partnership with the Director of Music, MWA Leadership Team, worship leaders, musicians, Campus Pastors, and the Production/Tech Team. The Campus Band Leader is expected to lead with humility, preparation, accountability, spiritual sensitivity, emotional maturity, and a team-first posture that aligns with the vision and leadership culture of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency on keyboard and/or organ with experience leading a band in a church, worship, gospel, or live music setting.
  • Strong knowledge of gospel, worship, traditional church music, contemporary Christian music, and other relevant musical styles.
  • Ability to create arrangements, transitions, intros, endings, service-flow ideas, charts, and rehearsal notes.
  • Proficiency in using a DAW for arranging, music preparation, and track programming.
  • Ability to read charts, number charts, chord charts, and lead sheets.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead musicians, manage rehearsals, communicate expectations, navigate conflict constructively, and build a healthy team culture.
  • Strong communication, rehearsal leadership, organization, problem-solving, adaptability, and follow-through skills.
  • Spiritually mature, dependable, teachable, emotionally healthy, collaborative, and aligned with the mission, culture, and leadership structure of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
  • Ability to receive coaching, correction, and feedback with humility, responsiveness, and a willingness to grow.
  • Team-first posture with a willingness to support the broader vision of the Ministry of Worship Arts beyond one location.
  • Successful completion of the required audition, interview process, background screening, reference checks, and church employment onboarding.

Nice To Haves

  • Ableton Live experience is preferred.
  • Logic Pro, MainStage, Playback, Planning Center, or similar platforms are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary music leader for the assigned campus while remaining flexible to support other Mount Zion locations based on weekly worship needs, special services, staffing adjustments, rehearsals, recordings, funerals, or ministry priorities.
  • Provide keyboard and/or organ accompaniment for Sunday worship services, rehearsals, tapings, funerals, special services, and other ministry events as needed.
  • Lead bands during rehearsals, soundchecks, services, recordings, and special events with clarity, preparation, excellence, accountability, and spiritual sensitivity.
  • Support worship leaders by shaping song flow, keys, transitions, dynamics, intros, endings, cues, and overall musical direction.
  • Create, edit, and refine musical arrangements for bands, vocal teams, choirs, worship moments, recordings, and special presentations.
  • Program, test, organize, and maintain tracks, stems, loops, click tracks, pads, playback sessions, and other musical elements for weekly services and special events.
  • Prepare or assist with charts, number charts, rehearsal materials, musical notes, service-flow notes, and other resources that help musicians arrive prepared.
  • Use DAW software to prepare music, create arrangements, program tracks, and support service execution.
  • Maintain accurate, clearly labeled, ministry-accessible tracks, stems, charts, session files, and rehearsal materials, with backup plans for playback failure, key changes, musician absences, and service-flow adjustments.
  • Collaborate with the Production/Tech Team regarding playback, soundcheck needs, monitor needs, stage setup, cues, and service flow.
  • Communicate consistently and promptly with musicians, worship leaders, MWA Leadership, and Production regarding weekly service needs, changes, expectations, preparation timelines, and concerns. Promptly notify the Worship Pastor of absences, conflicts, staffing concerns, or technical challenges that could affect ministry execution.
  • Provide day-to-day musical direction, coaching, onboarding support, and development for assigned musicians while building a culture of preparation, accountability, care, unity, honor, and excellence. Escalate musician attendance, preparation, performance, communication, or conduct concerns to the Worship Pastor.
  • Assist with the maintenance, care, and communication of needs related to musical instruments, keyboards, organ, gear, tracks, and other music resources at Mount Zion locations.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly MWA Team meetings, Production Team meetings as assigned, and monthly Vision Team meetings.
