Camp Lifeguard
About The Position
Established in 1926, Camp Tanager provides day and overnight camp programs to over 1,000 campers each summer. Campers from all backgrounds are welcome to attend our programs designed for fun, fitness, friendship and learning. Camp Tanager was voted Coolest Camp in Iowa in 2016 by The Philadelphia Inquirer for our unique and expansive program offerings. We are a 34 acre purpose-built campsite with wooded areas, trails and a creek to explore. Age appropriate STEAM programs are incorporated into our weekly camp activity schedule. Swimming, snorkeling and water aerobics are a few ways our campers enjoy the pool on a daily basis. Fun activities include archery, basketball, soccer, gaga ball, volleyball, group games, arts, crafts and more! As a member of the American Camp association, Camp Tanager follows strict rules and regulations put in place to help protect campers and provide a safe environment for all participants. Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age
- Current Lifeguarding Certificate successfully completed prior to start date
- Ability to communicate at all levels, particularly with children
Responsibilities
- Coordination of pool activities
- Basic pool maintenance
- Monitor activities and direct scanning of the swimming pool and adjacent areas to prevent injuries, accidents or drownings
- Modify dangerous campers' behaviors
- Enforce all pool rules and regulations by strongly and quickly addressing behaviors
- Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies
