About The Position

J Camp Extended Care Counselors are responsible for ensuring a safe and positive experience for their designated group of campers. This role involves actively participating in and supervising activities, planning and leading camp activities, and ensuring campers are always properly supervised. The counselor will also be responsible for maintaining clean spaces, supporting the emotional and social well-being of campers, communicating with the J Camp staff team, and ensuring children get to their designated locations. Additionally, the counselor will act as a positive ambassador for the SJCC, follow all emergency procedures, and perform work on weekends and evenings as needed.

Requirements

Experience and/or training working with children preferred.
Attendance at J Camp staff training is required unless approval to train separately is granted in writing by the camp director.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children, through an approved certifying body.
Ability to talk, hear, stand, and walk.
Ability to occasionally stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to occasionally carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Assume responsibilities for a group of campers under their care to ensure a positive and safe camp experience.
Actively participate in and supervise activities during J Camp, including the pool.
Plan and lead camp activities.
Assure campers are always properly supervised.
Ensure that the spaces used for J Camp are thoroughly cleaned before leaving.
Support the emotional and social wellbeing of the campers through positive behavior management, supportive interactions, and conflict resolution.
Communicate regularly and appropriately with the rest of the J Camp staff team, both verbally and in writing.
Ensure children get to where they need to go as directed by the J Camp leadership team.
Act as a positive ambassador of the SJCC both inside and outside of the SJCC.
Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
Other duties as assigned.
