About The Position

Under the general direction of the Recreation Coordinator, this position supervises the City of Hutto camp programs. This includes planning, overseeing and participating in camp activities. This position will communicate to parents and guardians daily and ensure the overall safety of all camp participants.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 19 years of age or older.
  • 2 (two) years required or equivalent experience in a camp, recreation, or youth program setting.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License or valid Texas Identification Card.
  • Must possess current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain during training.
  • Knowledge of sports activities, arts and crafts, or arts.
  • Knowledge of first aid and basic medical practices.
  • Knowledge of City of Hutto policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of management of staff.
  • Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Skill in working effectively with children ages 5 and up.
  • Ability to make good, quick, and sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and resolve customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Ability to motivate children and maintain a positive atmosphere, and if necessary, use positive disciplinary techniques.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze problems and recommend or implement solutions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or pull 30 pounds for short distances.
  • Ability to work from throughout the year to include Spring Break, Summer, Thanksgiving Break, and Christmas Break.
  • Ability to work a flexible shift from 6:45am to 6:15pm.

Nice To Haves

  • leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Track daily attendance and produce comprehensive camper data.
  • Assist with managerial assignments necessary for efficient camp operations.
  • Assist in maintaining camp documentation that includes expenses, field trips, or camp rosters with the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure safe and proper use of camp equipment.
  • Manage and supervise camp counselors.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
  • Report any incidents and injuries to appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Oversee the conduct and behavior of program participants and ensure the safety of participants.
  • Adapt classes, programs, and activities to campers’ age, physical ability, and interests.
  • Act as liaison between the Parks and Recreation Department, camp counselors, participants, and parents.
  • Act as a role model and exercise good judgment to parents, campers and staff.
  • Exhibit good behavior and positive attitude.
  • Assist with City of Hutto special events or programs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
