About The Position

Curtis is seeking enthusiastic summer day-camp counselors to join a supportive, inclusive, and educational learning community as a member of the Camp Curtis team. Curtis School is a DK-6 co-ed elementary school whose mission is to “develop, in every child, a sound mind in a sound body, governed by a compassionate heart.” We place an equal emphasis on physical, social-emotional, and character education and instill a growth mindset modeled by faculty and staff who are the best in their craft. The candidate should possess an abundance of respect and sensitivity around racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and all differences. As a Camp Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in creating a positive, fun, and inclusive environment for campers. A collegial personality and responsiveness to direction are essential traits, as is a love of working with early childhood-aged children. Camp Counselors will work closely with children aged 4-12 to lead activities, provide mentorship, and ensure their safety and well-being throughout the summer. Your creativity, patience, and enthusiasm are required to create the best possible camp environment and a positive and enjoyable experience for each camper.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be available to work from June 22, 2026 - July 31, 2026
  • Be able to adhere to an 8:00 am - 3:00 pm daily work schedule
  • Have education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field, or interest in gaining such education and experience.
  • Understand the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in education

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with elementary-aged students is a plus.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Fostering a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment for all campers, promoting teamwork, respect, and personal growth.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers at all times.
  • Acting as a role model by demonstrating positive behavior, strong communication skills, and a helpful attitude at all times.
  • Actively participating in all camp activities along with campers.
  • Remaining off of personal devices at all times during the camp day, with the exception of during the staff member’s break.
  • Leading team-building activities for camp participants.
  • Providing guidance and support to campers and addressing any issues or concerns that may arise during camp activities.
  • Communicating effectively with camp staff, parents, and camp directors to ensure smooth operations.
  • Planning and implementing age-appropriate activities and adapting them based on camper interests and abilities.
  • Ensuring that all campers adhere to camp rules and guidelines.
  • Participating in and supervising daily swimming activities, including swimming with campers.
  • Supervising campers during locker room transition times.
  • Providing high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
  • Taking attendance and ensuring that it is accurate throughout the day (i.e., noting late arrivals and early departures, and keeping track of children in one’s care).
  • Assisting in morning and afternoon camper drop-off and pick-up and with collection of student belongings at the end of the day.
  • Participating in staff training and meetings from June 23, 2026 - June 27, 2026.
