About The Position

Summer Camp Counselors assist the recreation department in the daily activities of the summer camp programs at various locations in the City of West Haven.

Requirements

• Must be creative, enthusiastic and desire to work with and help children develop socially and emotionally.
• Must have comprehensive knowledge of games and activities.
• Must be organized and flexible.
• Must demonstrate a good rapport with other counselors, supervisors, parents and children.
• Must be 16 years or older (15 with JR CIT experience).

Responsibilities

• Supervising, organizing and participating in daily activities with a group of children at one of our six camp locations and on any off-site trips or scheduled activities (i.e. pool, beach, park)
• Planning, programming, and implementing games and activities for the children assigned to their location
• Ensuring that all children follow rules and policies on site to ensure everyone’s safety
• Undertaking emergency procedures when necessary
