About The Position

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is looking for a Camp Counsellor to join their team. This is a Full-time Contract position at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location near Spanish, ON. Reporting to the Program Manager, Camp Counsellors are responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of campers. They guide and support campers throughout their camp experience with a camper-focused approach. First-Year Camp Counsellors are expected to take on a learning role, gaining valuable knowledge from their peers while also contributing what they can to the team.

Requirements

  • Experience working with campers aged 7-14
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation/facilitation skills
  • Knowledgeable in camp practices and its risk management considerations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) considered an asset for education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES with their application
  • Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support campers to ensure their emotional and physical well-being
  • Assist in delivering camp programs and activities
  • Build positive relationships and serve as a role model for campers and fellow staff
  • Provide a camper focused experience in all areas of programming
  • Support other areas of camp operations (ie. kitchen, maintenance etc.) and assist during Family Camp as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Association
