About The Position

The Camp Cabin Leader is responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and engaging living environment for campers with physical and developmental disabilities. This role focuses on daily care, supervision, and fostering independence while ensuring each camper has a meaningful and inclusive camp experience. The Cabin Leader serves as a primary point of support, building strong relationships with campers and promoting a sense of belonging within the cabin group. As a Camp Cabin Leader, you'll be the go-to support person for your group of campers-creating a safe, structured, and fun environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive. You're not just supervising-you're building relationships, fostering independence, and creating a true sense of belonging.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a team-first mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Camp or residential program experience
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience with behavior support strategies

Responsibilities

  • Create a Positive Cabin Community: Build a welcoming, inclusive, and structured cabin environment. Establish routines that promote comfort, independence, and success. Help campers feel safe, valued, and part of a team.
  • Provide Hands-On Support: Assist with daily living needs (hygiene, dressing, toileting, feeding as needed). Support mobility, transfers, and use of adaptive equipment. Encourage independence while providing the right level of support.
  • Ensure Safety & Wellbeing: Maintain active supervision at all times. Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures. Use de-escalation strategies and positive behavior supports.
  • Engage in the Camp Experience: Participate in daily activities alongside campers. Encourage involvement and social interaction. Be a positive, energetic role model.
