About The Position

Responsible for the health, safety, welfare, and personal development of a group of youth campers on a 24-hour basis. This role involves facilitating community living, planning and leading activities, and acting as a positive role model for campers and staff in an outdoor environment.

Requirements

  • Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants.
  • Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth, and should relate well to all age levels and backgrounds of people.
  • Facilitate community living with youth in a cabin or tent platform.
  • Ability to plan, initiate and lead small and large group activities.
  • Physically fit and able to hike, walk, stand, bend and lift comfortably over the course of a day.
  • Mentally and visually alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
  • Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer emergency care effectively.
  • Must be 18 years of age on or before August 1st of the summer season.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen and First Aid Certifications.
  • Prior experience with youth or family programming.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate an engaging group living experience in an outdoor environment for campers while helping each camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
  • Provide camper supervision within established policies, procedures, and risk management guidelines.
  • Actively plan to teach campers in areas of recreation, environmental studies, and social skills.
  • Responsible for monitoring camper eating habits, health, relationships, and hygiene.
  • Alert maintenance personnel of repairs needed to equipment or facility to maintain proper working/operating conditions.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings.
  • Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties.
  • Evaluate current season and make suggestions for future season.
  • Play an active role in all camp activities.
  • Will work stay over weekends as assigned.
  • May work one week as housekeeping/office/kitchen/maintenance crew.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
