About The Position

The Volunteer/Ambassador creates a safe and positive environment for participants by assisting with camper drop-off activities and with camper pick-up activities. This role also assists staff with specialized program activities. This assignment will provide transportation for international staff to and from the airport, shopping trips, and other locations in the service area.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16
  • Completion of the application and submission of at least 4 references
  • Successful completion of the Y's background screening
  • Completion of personnel paperwork and required training
  • Commitment to attendance for a specified time period
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Have relevant skills, knowledge, or experience in the assigned program area.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and the ability to follow instructions with attention to detail.
  • Be friendly, approachable, and able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Exhibit dependability, responsibility, and a commitment to fulfilling volunteer duties.
  • Able to meet all requirements including having a valid drivers license and proof of automobile liability coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with parking/crowd control during camper drop-off and pick-up.
  • Provide transportation for international staff as directed.
  • Assist staff by facilitating specialized program activities according to the program plan, ensuring an enjoyable and impactful experience for participants.
  • Actively ensure the safety and well-being of all children by adhering to YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s Youth Protection Policies. Recognize, respond to, and immediately report any suspected abuse, policy violations, or safety concerns.
  • Address challenges with proactive solutions and report any concerns, incidents, or issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Follow all YMCA policies, including youth protection policies, safety protocols, and organizational work rules.
  • Arrive on time, exhibit professionalism, and communicate promptly with the supervisor regarding absences or delays.
  • Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with participants, staff, and guests through open and effective communication.
  • Maintain any certifications/license required for the ambassador program and keep them up to date as needed.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the ambassador program by collaborating with staff and volunteers, and offering support as needed.
