Camera Systems Engineer

Apple•Cupertino, CA

About The Position

As part of Apple’s Camera Technologies group, the Camera Systems Engineer designs and develops technology for camera systems in Apple products, collaborating across teams to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware. The role performs system-level analysis and modeling of imaging and sensing systems and defines, executes, and automates system-level tests for parametric specifications and end-to-end performance. It also contributes to camera features and technologies from sensor to lens, with the goal of delivering an exceptional photography experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or physics), or equivalent, and 10 years of industry experience.
  • Experience with digital camera and/or optical systems technology.
  • Experience in system-level modeling or simulation, quantitative data analysis, and/or image or signal processing using Matlab and/or Python.
  • Experience designing and performing laboratory experiments for camera testing.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in a relevant field (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or physics), or equivalent.
  • Experience defining and documenting system-level requirements and defining and executing system- and subsystem-level tests and analysis to validate overall system performance.
  • Experience with software/hardware automation.
  • Experience with collaborative software development and regression testing, such as git and Jenkins.
  • Familiarity with image signal processing pipelines, CMOS image sensor technology, and/or analog/digital electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Define and document systems architecture, requirements, use-case analysis, and tests for camera features and technologies.
  • Define subsystem- and system-level tests to characterize or guarantee parametric specifications and system-level performance.
  • Design and perform laboratory experiments and document results.
  • Compile and analyze data from multiple sources to gain insight into user behavior.
  • Develop, maintain, and document software and workflows to automate repetitive measurements, using tools such as Python, Matlab, shell scripting, and C/C++.
  • Manage project deliverables and schedules to meet commitments to product development teams.
