About The Position

The University of Virginia is seeking highly qualified applicants for a Camera Control Operator. Camera Control Operators provide surveillance support and information for police, security and other emergency responders for criminal and/or other emergency incidents. They independently observe feeds (both permanent and temporary) from approximately 3,900 cameras to identify criminal incidents, suspicious activities, in an effort to support emergency responses or contact emergency personnel for an observed incident. Camera Control Operators direct cameras to locations associated with police or emergency responses as identified from radio transmissions and will provide information that will contribute to officer safety, identify criminals, and reduce property losses. These are unarmed, non-sworn civilian positions. The successful candidate will be able to follow specific oral and written instructions and safety procedures, as well as the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. They will also be able to demonstrate technical savvy and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. The successful candidate will also be required to complete the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) operator training either before or during employment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 months experience in a security position or in a position dealing with the public required.
  • Active and Valid Virginia Driver’s License
  • Ability to follow specific oral and written instructions and safety procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Technical savvy and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must complete the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) operator training either before or during employment.
  • Candidates will be required to complete a separate background investigation before a formal offer can be extended.
  • Prior to your first day of employment, candidates must successfully complete a separate background check and drug screening.
  • This position will not consider candidates who require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
