About The Position

This position, primarily a teacher aide role, involves assisting a teacher or assigned teacher assistant in providing a well-planned, developmentally appropriate curriculum for children in an assigned classroom. Key responsibilities include ensuring child safety, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, supporting center staff in classroom maintenance, facilitating student exploration and learning, stimulating language acquisition, and assisting with lesson plan implementation. The role is on an "as needed" basis, with work hours determined by availability for various assignments, which may include acting as an assistant teacher (if pursuing a CDA or Early Childhood degree), serving as a bus aide or driver, and substituting for nutrition staff.

Requirements

MUST BE 18
Have a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or equivalent
Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities about child growth and development and the needs of children
Ability to communicate with children and adults
Adequate personal transportation, including adequate auto liability coverage and proof of a satisfactory driving record
Participation in agency training events is required
Pass state DHS fingerprinting & drug screening process prior to hire (for staff hired after January 15, 2001)
Pass a past job offer physical prior to working with children
Pass a drug test and evidence of a negative T.B. screening
Pass a pre-employment drug screen
Pass a background check
Have a Drivers License
Be able to use a computer & iPad

Nice To Haves

Minimum of one year of paid or volunteer experience in working with young children preferred
The ability to engage children in a well-run and orderly classroom in a safe, literacy rich and nurturing environment
CDA credentials and/or ECE coursework (encouraged for advancement)
Bus driver status
Computer skills
Spanish training
Ability to secure a commercial drivers licenses may be required in some centers

Responsibilities

Help provide a well-planned, developmentally appropriate curriculum for children in assigned classroom
Carry out supplementary activities related to the education program
Ensure child safety, to include count / location of children
Ensure children have adequate supervision at all times
Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children
Support center staff to maintain a clean, attractive, and well-organized classroom environment following all SVHS classroom environment procedures and Tennessee Quality Rating Scale indicators
Facilitate students’ ability to actively explore and learn by consistently providing comfort, reassurance, and encouragement
Communicate warmth, respect, and enjoyment through verbal and nonverbal interactions
Provide clear behavioral expectations and uses effective methods to prevent and redirect misbehavior
Stimulate students’ language acquisition through frequent conversations, open-ended questioning, repetition and extension, self and parallel talk, and advance language modeling
Provide feedback that expands learning and understanding and encourages participation
Support teaching staff with implementation of lesson plans and individualization tasks
Maintain confidentiality, respecting the rights of children, families, and staff
Promote teamwork by being reliable when not supervised, taking the initiative to get things done, taking responsibility for own actions, and demonstrates adaptability as well as willingness to work in other capacities as needed
Serve as a bus aide or driver and substitutes for nutrition staff as needed
Follow the direction of the center team leader completing other assignments and tasks as needed
