About The Position

The Call Center Representative at Artesia General Hospital will be responsible for greeting patients, visitors, and co-workers courteously, maintaining appointment schedules, and accurately registering patients to meet regulatory requirements. This role involves collecting payments at the time of service, reviewing medical records for insurance approvals, and managing pre-certifications, referrals, and prior authorizations for tests and medications. The representative will also handle phone calls, relay messages between providers and patients, ensure end-of-day reconciliation, and perform basic clerical duties. The position requires knowledge of office equipment, multi-line telephones, basic math, and computer skills, with an understanding of age-specific patient needs. The work environment involves daily patient contact and potential exposure to blood or other body fluids.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Computer skills.
  • Knowledge of office equipment.
  • Ability to handle multi-line telephones.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.
  • Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.
  • Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors and co-workers in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Maintain appointment scheduler and follow office scheduling policy.
  • Register patients in a complete and accurate manner to conform to all regulatory requirements.
  • Collect monies at time of service.
  • Reviews provider medical records to gather information for approvals from the various insurance plans.
  • Handle pre-certification and referrals.
  • Handles all prior authorizations on test as well as medications.
  • Follow up on prior authorizations; ensure that they are completed prior to scheduled date.
  • Answers the phones.
  • Relays messages to and from the providers to the patients.
  • Ensures the end of day reconciliation is complete each night before close.
  • Perform basic clerical duties as required.
