About The Position

This position is for a Cage Wash Trainee within the Division of Animal Resources at Emory University's School of Medicine. The role involves learning and performing routine duties related to cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting. The trainee will operate and maintain cage washing equipment, assist with material receiving and storage, and transport supplies. Maintaining sanitary conditions in work areas and adhering to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and handling of hazardous materials, are key aspects of the job. This is a hands-on role requiring physical capability and adherence to safety standards.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent or demonstrated literacy.
  • The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Learns to perform routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions.
  • Operates cage washing and related equipment and ensures that they are in proper working order by cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
  • Performs routine start-up and shut down procedures.
  • Assists in receiving and storing materials, food and supplies.
  • Transports caging supplies between animal rooms and cage wash rooms.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas.
  • Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
