About The Position

Franklin Biolabs is seeking a Cage Wash Technician to support the daily operations of its biomedical research vivarium. This role is crucial for maintaining the health and welfare of research animals and ensuring the integrity of preclinical studies through sanitation, sterilization, and equipment processing. The technician will be responsible for disassembling, sanitizing, sterilizing, reassembling, and distributing animal housing equipment, support areas, and materials in accordance with institutional standards, regulatory requirements, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and OSHA regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Understanding of sanitation process technology and equipment functionality.
  • Familiarity with biohazard waste, biohazard safety, and biohazard waste disposal policy and practice.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to prioritize within a fast-paced processing/production environment without compromising quality or quantity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and promptly.
  • Ability to follow detailed SOPs.
  • Ability to distinguish between different colors (normal color vision).
  • Ability to see clearly at various distances.
  • Adequate near vision for reading documents or lab equipment.
  • Ability to focus and maintain concentration in tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying light conditions.
  • Documentation of a negative TB blood test or normal chest X-ray.
  • Proof of Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR) immunity.
  • Documentation of a tetanus vaccination within the last 10 years.
  • Completion of annual Health Questionnaire/Allergy Survey.
  • Completion of Respirator Questionnaire & Physical Exam.
  • Annual fit testing for N95 respirators.
  • Enrollment in a hearing conservation program, including annual audiometric testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year position-specific work experience, or 2 years of transferable work experience is preferred.
  • Overall equivalent combinations of formal education and work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sanitation, sterilization, and equipment processing activities in the vivarium.
  • Ensure animal housing equipment, support areas, and associated materials are properly handled.
  • Comply with institutional standards, regulatory requirements, GLP, and OSHA regulations.
  • Manage biohazard waste, adhering to safety policies and disposal procedures.
