About The Position

This position is for a Cafeteria Worker at Avon View High School, working 6 hours per day. The role involves various kitchen duties, food preparation, and customer service within the school cafeteria. The terms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Collective Agreement Local 3876. The effective date for this position is September 1, 2026, with applications closing at midnight on June 25, 2026. The pay rate is as per the CUPE Collective Agreement, starting at $20.60.

Requirements

• Must have experience in food and menu preparation.
• Must be organized, neat/tidy and have clean work habits.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced atmosphere.
• Must have knowledge of food and nutrition policy for Nova Scotia Public Schools.
• Must enjoy working with students.
• Valid Nova Scotia Operator's License.
• Must have a current Food Handling Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Cashier, as required.
• Cooking, baking, and preparation of food.
• Keeping daily accounts and inventory control.
• Selling canteen items at recess and noon.
• Kitchen duties as required in coordination with the cafeteria team (stocking shelves, cleaning, dishes etc.)
• Support of the school recycling program.
• Substitute for Head Cafeteria Worker, as required.
