About The Position

The Cafeteria Monitor reports to the School Principal and Food Service Director. The general duties include supervising students, supporting the Food Services operation in the cafeteria during lunch periods, and performing other related tasks. The role is part-time, 15 hours per week, with no benefits. The salary is $18.00 per hour, and the position is part of the AFSCME Union. The hours are three (3) hours per day, arranged by the Principal.

Requirements

  • Must pass Massachusetts criminal background check.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Prior experience in a school environment with an understanding of student behavior.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluent (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in both English and Spanish or Portuguese.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist students during meal periods and follow school protocols when needed.
  • Clean cafeteria tables between lunch periods.
  • Check daily and assist students that have restrictions for dietary or physical needs.
  • Encourage appropriate behavior and interactions; refer students to the administrator on duty when necessary.
  • Understand and adhere to all district policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of students in the cafeteria.
  • Apply proper sanitation and safety requirements associated with food operations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Establish and maintain professional work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Attend in-service training and workshops when required.
  • Perform other functions as needed.
