About The Position

The Cafe Supervisor is responsible for leading the operations of a Joe Coffee shop, which may operate with varying volume, hours, or public access. This role is crucial for ensuring customers receive excellent coffee and hospitality. Key aspects include achieving performance metrics and financial goals, cultivating a welcoming customer experience, and providing leadership to staff through recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and development. The supervisor also handles administrative tasks such as maintaining café cleanliness, scheduling maintenance, submitting operational reports, and managing vendor relationships. Requirements

  • Prior coffee experience.
  • 1–2 years of experience managing people.
  • 1–2 years of experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Financial acumen, including reading a P&L and driving financial performance metrics.
  • Ability to lead a team and cultivate a positive work environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for most of the workday.
  • Ability to lift equipment or packaging weighing approximately 20–40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operations of a Joe Coffee shop.
  • Ensure customers receive excellent coffee and hospitality.
  • Achieve café performance metrics.
  • Achieve financial goals for the café, including revenue growth and expense management leading to profitability.
  • Review operations and financial reports to identify opportunities to improve the business.
  • Cultivate a welcoming and exciting environment centered around our craft.
  • Demonstrate excellent hospitality to everyone in the café.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach, develop, and inspire staff on a daily basis.
  • Work with the store’s coffee educators to educate staff on Joe Coffee and products.
  • Write and update staff schedules that meet the demands of the business.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the café and café equipment.
  • Establish schedules for regular maintenance.
  • Submit operations summaries to various departments and leaders.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Actively participate in manager meetings.
  • Meet staff “where they’re at” and bring them along, engaging their curiosity through coffee knowledge.
  • Stay curious personally by approaching every situation with an open mind and eagerness to learn as a professional and team member.
  • Work closely and in good faith with all members of the Joe community to problem-solve and achieve goals.
  • Foster enthusiasm for our work through information sharing and coaching.
