About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Assistant to the Café Owner, the Café Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the café. This includes hiring and training staff, maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, preparing high-quality food and beverages, and ensuring compliance with California state food safety and labor laws. The Café Manager plays a key role in fostering a positive team culture, ensuring exceptional customer service, and driving business success through effective leadership and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the coffee service industry.
  • Minimum 2 years in the customer service industry (managerial experience preferred).
  • Working knowledge of food service equipment and cash handling procedures.
  • Valid California Food Handler Card (required).
  • Able to lift and carry items 20 lbs. or more.
  • Strong leadership and team training abilities.
  • Ability to enforce health, safety, and labor regulations with consistency and fairness.
  • Effective planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive during busy shifts and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with a commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • High attention to cleanliness, detail, and product quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of California food safety and sanitation regulations (strongly preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, supervise, and coach café staff in accordance with company policies and California labor laws.
  • Plan, market, and execute in-store events and promotions to drive customer engagement and sales.
  • Ensure full compliance with California Health and Safety Code, including proper food handling, allergen awareness, and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain current Food Handler Certification for self and ensure all food-handling employees are certified.
  • Manage inventory, place product orders, and ensure timely restocking.
  • Perform and oversee opening and closing procedures, ensuring all checklists are followed.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all work areas and equipment in compliance with CalCode.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and state regulatory requirements.
  • Operate within budget guidelines and seek continuous improvement in cost control and efficiency.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture; resolve employee and customer issues in a professional manner.
  • Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
