CAE Plant Design System Application Engineer

TerraPower LLC.•Bellevue, WA
•$143,101 - $185,846

About The Position

TerraPower is seeking a Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) System Application Engineer to support the Natrium team. The role configures, administers, and optimizes plant design platforms, including 3D CAD, piping, electrical, and integrated plant layout systems. It supports nuclear engineering projects by aligning design tools, data structures, and workflows with engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and simulation-based analysis needs. The engineer develops processes for model integration, automation, and downstream analysis across the plant design and operational-planning lifecycle. The position combines hands-on use of design tools with oversight, guidance, and collaboration with external EPC counterparts and system users. The position is subject to qualification requirements in accordance with ANSI/ANS 3.1. Candidates must meet the applicable minimum education and experience criteria, including relevant nuclear industry experience where required; data verification is part of the hiring process. The role requires 0–10% travel. TerraPower’s technology is subject to U.S. Government export controls, and applicants may be asked to provide information to facilitate export-control review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience with plant design systems, preferably Intergraph Smart 3D or alternatively AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar.
  • Experience integrating data between SQL-based plant design applications, preferably Intergraph Smart 3D with other Smart applications, or alternatively AVEVA Unified Engineering or similar.
  • Experience using different 3D platforms across project phases, with a migration path to intelligent, data-centric plant design.
  • Proficiency in plant design platforms, data structures, and integration workflows.
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting for automation, such as Python, VBA, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with a 3D plant design platform, preferably Intergraph Smart 3D, or alternatively AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with a 2D CAD platform, preferably AutoCAD, or alternatively MicroStation or similar.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, such as NRC guidelines and DOE standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to provide oversight, guidance, and constructive feedback to external EPC counterparts and users, and to build effective working relationships with them.
  • Meet the applicable ANSI/ANS 3.1 minimum education and experience criteria, including relevant nuclear industry experience where required.
