About The Position

The CAD Operator prepares clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches. This role involves making final sketches of proposed drawings, checking dimensions, parts, materials, and the relationship of parts to the whole structure. The operator utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings, making adjustments as necessary. The position also involves inking lines and letters on pencil drawings and drawing charts for statistical data representation, as well as drawing finished designs from sketches using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of Design software and Word Processing software.
  • A Mechanical/Drafting Associate Technical Degree.
  • One year college or technical school and three (3) years experience/and or training in detailed assembly and diagram drawings; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and depth perception.

  • Draws finished designs from sketches.
  • Uses computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.
