About The Position

The CAD Designer I is responsible for producing plumbing and mechanical designs using CAD software, creating dimensioned plans for single-family projects, and identifying plumbing needs and accurately placing drains and fixture points. The role also involves placing HVAC diffusers and equipment, reviewing builder documents, understanding code requirements, and communicating with various stakeholders to ensure project progress and information accuracy. The position requires strong communication, collaboration, accuracy, and organizational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD, Autodesk Design Review, and Bluebeam software. Basic construction knowledge is also required.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • 2 years CAD design software experience.
  • Basic construction knowledge required.
  • Clear, effective communications skills – both written and verbal.
  • Good ability to collaborate and incorporate multiple perspectives into work product.
  • Aptitude for prioritizing and problem-solving.
  • Preference for accuracy, attention to detail, and organization.
  • Mastery of entire Microsoft Suite plus Internet and email.
  • Experienced in AutoCAD or other related software.
  • Ability to utilize Autodesk Design Review and Bluebeam software.

  • Associate or Bachelor degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce plumbing and mechanical designs based on client and company specifications using CAD software.
  • Produce dimensioned plans for single-family projects to be used by field teams for construction.
  • Comprehensively create material lists of all necessary materials for each design.
  • Identify plumbing needs for different fixtures being used in the design and accurately placing drains for these fixtures.
  • Consistently place fixture drain and water line points in locations per RTM Standard practices.
  • Accurately place HVAC diffusers and equipment.
  • Carefully review and understand builder documents associated with each project and correctly interpret builder options to accurately complete designs.
  • Understand plumbing and HVAC code requirements to ensure designs are code compliant.
  • Clearly communicate with other trades, architects, general contractors, field engineers, project managers, field staff, and relevant internal departments such as estimating, to ensure applicable information is captured and all individuals are kept abreast of project progress.
  • Correctly use project management software to coordinate with internal team.
