CAD Design Engineer

Reframe SystemsAndover, MA

About The Position

Reframe Systems is building software-driven microfactories that produce high-quality, net-zero homes at a fraction of the cost and time of conventional construction. Our Pixels-to-Parts platform connects design intent directly to factory execution, enabling mass-customized housing built with manufacturing rigor. We are a ~70-person team backed by leading investors, with homes in production today and a growing project pipeline. We are looking for Design Engineer to help transform the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) design process. This means creating parameterized designs that are far more detailed than traditional AEC workflows. The role includes augmenting CAD workflows with advanced scripting and automated design logic, and generating supporting assets to aid manufacturing. We are looking for a problem-solving self-starter who likes a challenge and thrives in a multidisciplinary environment. We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented individual to join our Design Engineering team. The right candidate will play a crucial role in engineering designs, taking them from concept to fabrication for residential and low-rise multi-family buildings. This role requires a strong background in CAD software, with deep understanding of parametric design and 3D model management. The preferred candidate will have successfully designed and built products while effectively addressing challenges related to design for manufacturing, implementing design automation, and ensuring clear delivery of work instructions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a Design Engineer is required for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field is required.
  • Proficiency in Onshape (or similar - CATIA, Solidworks, CREO).
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce maintainable 3D models.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well both cross-functionally and within a team.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in the construction industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Revit is a plus.
  • Experience with wood-based construction is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with architects to engineer design concepts, converting them into high-fidelity 3D CAD models.
  • Collaborate with software developers to set requirements and rulesets for parametrized modeling that can be written into software to automate modeling.
  • Collaborate with operations and build teams to generate the right assets for the operators to build from effectively. Generate details for structural, MEPF and other systems, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Develop and implement high-impact decisions for an evolving modeling strategy, adapting to new tools and designs while preserving speed and flexibility, with the ultimate goals of standardization and automation in mind.
  • Have a keen understanding of the processes, machines, and people that manufacture and assemble designs. Find opportunities for improving the design to remove parts, simplify materials, and the make resulting product simpler, easier, and faster to assemble.
  • Organize and maintain controlled documentation of 3D models and work instruction files, in a highly collaborative cloud environment, to ensure that the latest versions are readily accessible.
  • Own the modeling and work instructions review process, ensuring 3D models are accurate, complete, and compliant with project standards and regulations. Make revisions as necessary to address design changes or discrepancies.
