About The Position

UDRI is seeking an experienced CAD/CAM programmer to develop and provide technical training in both CNC programming and CNC machine tool operations. This position will support the Air Force Metal Fabrication and Technologies Office (AFMFTO) with their support of Air Force fabrication shops worldwide. The role involves providing programming and machining support, design for manufacturability guidance, call-in support to shops for Mastercam and Haas troubleshooting, and other related activities. The position requires the ability to acquire and maintain a CAC and involves traveling between customer sites, offices, or job locations.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in a technical field plus four (4) years of relevant experience in CNC programming and machining OR High school diploma plus ten (10) years relevant experience in CNC programming and machining.
  • Experience using CAD/CAM and programming for 2, 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines.
  • Experience operating 2, 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines, including at-machine edits.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in interacting with design and manufacturing engineers and other technical personnel, providing guidance around design for manufacturability.
  • Prior experience training or mentoring others in CAD/CAM programming and CNC machine tool operations.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Practical experience using/applying/interpreting drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment, such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Effective verbal communication skills with team members at all levels.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Able to lift fifty (50) pounds.
  • Able to travel (~15%) of time. Includes both national and international locations.
  • Possess a valid passport or ability to obtain a passport within sixty (60) days of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with low risk driving record.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a CAC.

Nice To Haves

  • Mastercam experience preferred.
  • Haas machine experience preferred.
  • Mastercam Training certificate.
  • Prior experience developing and providing training in a formal educational setting for both Mastercam programming and CNC machine tool operations.
  • Experience designing with SolidWorks, certification is a plus.
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) certificate.
  • An understanding of additive manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • 4 years’ experience in programming, set-up, operation and troubleshooting Additive Manufacturing equipment (i.e. Stratasys Polymer 3D Printers, EOS M290 printing system).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide technical training in CNC programming and CNC machine tool operations.
  • Support AFMFTO sustainment activities at the Advanced Technology and Training Center - Middle Georgia (ATTC-MG).
  • Provide programming and machining support.
  • Provide design for manufacturability guidance.
  • Provide call-in support to shops for Mastercam and Haas troubleshooting.
  • Perform other related activities as needed.
  • Travel between customer sites, offices, or job locations.
