About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)/CAD Mobile System Administrator in our Information Technology (IT) Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This role is responsible for the overall management of the CAD and Mobile CAD systems, including ensuring systems are maintained for maximum availability. The administrator will act as a liaison between users, management, vendors, and other agencies to implement program changes, updates, and corrections, and address system issues. This includes assessing, proposing, coordinating, and implementing solutions for hardware and software issues, system modifications, enhancements, and replacements. The position serves as the point of contact for dispatch and law enforcement users to resolve inquiries and process enhancement and technical requests. Responsibilities also include handling calls for service (system problems/outages) during and outside of on-duty hours, managing budgets, project management, and implementing new functionality from design to completion. Additionally, the role involves providing DCJS complaint training programs, documentation, and manuals, and working with vendors and contractors to support current functionality and large-scale projects.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of CAD system technology, including troubleshooting, hardware and software maintenance, and system analysis techniques and procedures.

  • Experience with principles and methods of system testing methodologies.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a VSP Dispatcher and/or VSP CAD Systems Tech preferred.
  • Training or experience in Computer Science, Information System Management, or related technical field highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall management of the CAD and Mobile CAD systems.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of seven Communications Center System Technicians who are geographically dispersed around the Commonwealth.
  • Ensuring systems are maintained to ensure maximum availability.
  • Acting as a liaison between users, management, vendors, and other agencies to implement program changes, updates, corrections, and addresses other system issues as identified.
  • Assessing, proposing, coordinating, and implementing solutions to hardware and software issues, system modifications, system enhancements, and system replacements.
  • Serving as point of contact for dispatch and law enforcement users to resolve inquiries, request enhancements and technical requests.
  • Handling calls for service (system problems/outages) during on-duty and off-duty hours.
