About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Cable Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of cable systems, ensuring optimal performance and customer satisfaction. This role requires a strong understanding of telecommunications systems, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in installing, terminating, and testing Cat6 and coaxial cables.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems, equipment, and networking concepts.
  • Experience with testing equipment like cable testers, crimpers, signal level meters, and digital multi-meters.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve cable and network issues.
  • Attention to detail and precision in performing tasks and installations.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to industry regulations.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Cable Technician or in a related field is often preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., BICSI, CompTIA Network+) are highly valued but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and routing Cat6 and coaxial cables through walls, ceilings, conduit, and other pathways.
  • Terminating cables using appropriate connectors (e.g., RJ45 for Cat6, F-connectors for coaxial).
  • Installing and configuring low voltage equipment such as modems, routers, cable boxes, and security cameras.
  • Installing support structures, including racks, j-hooks, and cable trays, to ensure neat and organized cabling.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical diagrams, and work orders to guide installations.
  • Inspecting cable systems to diagnose and resolve issues like weak signals or connectivity problems.
  • Troubleshooting network and equipment issues to restore service functionality.
  • Repairing damaged cables or connectors and replacing faulty equipment.
  • Performing routine maintenance checks to ensure system longevity and performance.
  • Providing exceptional customer service, including explaining installation processes and addressing customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Maintaining accurate records of installations, repairs, test results, and inventory.
  • Completing paperwork such as timesheets, checklists, and service orders accurately and on time.
  • Adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Ensuring proper grounding for equipment and cables.
  • Performing fire-stopping procedures when required.
